Board of Trustees Elects 3 New Members

The Lancaster Theological Seminary Board of Trustees has elected three members to serve three-year terms on the graduate school’s governing board: Catherine Hartley of Califon, N.J., The Rev. Freeman L. Palmer of Baltimore, and The Rev. Kathleen Rhyne of Atlanta.

Ms. Catherine Hartley
Ms. Hartley returns to the Lancaster Seminary Board of Trustees where she served from 2003-2016. She is co-CEO of unthinkable, a strategy and design firm providing services, products, and digital solutions for companies, not-for-profit organizations and communities. Previously she was a senior practice leader at Infosys, PWC, and at Accenture, where she led a $1.6 billion business unit. Ms. Hartley has advised and consulted for Fortune 100 companies, helping them understand and enhance their customers’ journeys. She has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Cornell University.

The Rev. Freeman L. Palmer
Rev. Palmer is the conference minister for the Central Atlantic Conference of the United Church of Church in Baltimore. He previously held leadership posts for the New York Conference of the United Church of Christ and served as an associate minister at Middle Collegiate Church in Manhattan. He was ordained in 2004 after a 15-year career in finance and administration with CBS Inc. in New York City.

Rev. Palmer earned a BA in Economics from Swarthmore College, an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Divinity with honors from New York Theological Seminary. He was an original contributor to the African-American Lectionary, an online worship, scriptural, and cultural resource.

The Rev. Kathleen Rhyne
Rev. Rhyne received a Master of Divinity in 2003 from Lancaster Seminary after a 22-year career in business that included marketing, advertising, sales, strategic planning and general management. Before enrolling in seminary, she was Director of New Products for Hershey Foods Corporation. She has an MBA from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Bucknell University.

Ordained in the United Church of Christ, Rev. Rhyne has worked in parish ministry, as a chaplain, and as a spiritual director. Rev. Rhyne also served Lancaster Seminary as a ministerial guide in the Master of Divinity program and as a trustee from 2014-2015. Currently she is an active member of Kirkwood United Church of Chris, Atlanta.
