A dynamic spiritual leader with a charismatic style and progressive opinions, Rev. Forbes served the vibrant interdenominational, interracial and international congregation at Riverside Church in Harlem as its first African-American Senior Minister. Now Senior Minister Emeritus at Riverside, Rev. Forbes continues his call for spiritual revitalization, interfaith cooperation, peace and justice.  In 1996, Rev. Forbes was named on of the 12 "most effective preachers in the English-speaking world" by Newsweek. In 1984 and 1993, Ebony magazine called the Rev. Forbes "one of America's greatest Black preachers."
