O’Brien invited to participate in research seminar: "La Violencia & the People's Life: Politics, Culture, and the Interpretation of the Hebrew Bible"Julia M. O’Brien has been invited to participate in a research seminar entitled "La Violencia & the People's Life: Politics, Culture, and the Interpretation of the Hebrew Bible," sponsored by the Perkins School of Theology's Center for the Study of Latina/o Christianity and Religions. Julia will be one of ten scholars of Hebrew Bible Studies from the Southern, Central, and Northern American continent who will gather at Perkins School of Theology on October 4-7, 2012. Their purpose is to engage biblical interpretation in the context of the political, cultural, economic, and social histories and experiences of the American peoples. The papers presented at the conference will
be published along with responses from other scholars. Julia has also joined the Editorial Board of Interpretation, a journal of Bible and theology. Her three-year term begins in October 2012. She continues to serve on the Editorial Board of the Catholic Biblical Quarterly, as co-chair of the Theology of the Hebrew Scriptures section of the Society of Biblical Literature, and as Editor-in-Chief of the Oxford Encyclopedia of the Bible and Gender Studies. |
