Online Theological Study
Incorporatingemerging technologies, Lancaster Theological Seminary seeks to introduce participantsto theological study while providing flexibility that does not require movingor commuting to a seminary's campus. We aim to develop offerings that providea theological foundation should the participant desire to pursue theMaster of Divinity or Master of Arts degree program at Lancaster Seminary, orsimply as a way to support one’s interest in life-long learning. Online offeringsin recent semesters have include Jesus and the Gospels (NT111-OL) and Introductionto Theology (TH100-OL), both of which fulfill requirements in LancasterSeminary’s Master of Divinity and Master of Arts programs. Digital Literacy forthe Contemporary Church (EM120) is an offering that fulfills a requirement inour Certificate in Youth and Young Adult Ministry program. Future additionsinclude History of Christianity II (CH113-OL) and others still in development. These introductorycourses are relevant to all who want to explore Christianity in the context of a collaborative learning environment. In the 2013 Spring Semester, Lancaster Theological Seminary is pleasedto offer the following online course that will fulfill a requirement in both theMaster of Divinity and Master of Arts programs: RS205-OL Church and the Human Sciences Church and the Human Sciences, one of LancasterSeminary’s offerings in the area of religion and society, introduces studentsto the practical applications of behavioral science theory and research to theeveryday problems and issues of church life. Attention is given to the ways inwhich societal and cultural experiences form the nature of ecclesiology. Itwill consider how different ecclesiologies lead to a variety of relationshipsbetween the church and other social institutions. Some topics studied are:power and authority of the church in regard to political and economic systems;the contemporary church and mass marketing; the church and social class structures;the church and issues of race, health delivery systems, and education. Whether desiring to pursue Christian theological studies in the future, or simplyenhancing and expanding one’s knowledge, the participant will delve deeper intothe study of Christianity through an online experience that includes:one-on-one instructor connection, video lectures, forum discussions,collaborative projects, and relevant media content.
