Full-Time Temporary Pastor Position Available

The session of the Union Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood, PA is seeking a full-time temporary pastor with the following job requirements.
Serve as a spiritual leader, with a Christ-like character, with regular practices of prayer and Bible Study, professing Jesus Christ as sole Lord and Savior and the Bible as the authoritative Word of God.
Lead weekly worship services and other special services.
Administer the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper and the ordination and installation of Ruling Elders and Deacons.

This is a full-time, approximately 45-50 hours per week position. Prior to the announced retirement of the current pastor, the congregation entered into a Discernment Process to determine whether to remain in the PC(USA) or not. The Joint Presbytery and Congregation Discernment Team is now beginning their work together. The temporary pastor position will continue until a decision is made whether to dismiss to another Reformed Denomination or to remain in the PC(USA).

The position is anticipated to last at least through the summer. It is renewable as needed, with a thirty day notice of termination from either party. If the congregation remains in the PC(USA), The temporary pastor will be eligible to apply for the Installed Pastor position, if appropriate.

The position is available beginning July 1, 2013.

Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is still seeking male volunteer counselors for summer camp at Gretna Glen in Lebanon from June 15 – 22. The application deadline has been extended!

Each year the MDA sponsors a week-long summer camp for children with neuro-muscular diseases.

MDA needs volunteer counselors like you to help make camp a fun and exciting place for campers. Counselors must be at least 16 years old and be able lift and care for a camper—thorough training is provided.

Counselors will also assist campers in enjoying outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and swimming.

Anticipated Position Opening: Associate Chaplain


TCU invites applications for a full time, year-round position of Associate Chaplain. This position supports the Office of Religious & Spiritual Life (RSL) and the Division of Student Affairs, reports to the Minister to the University and works collaboratively with chaplains, campus ministers, religious life staff, student affairs professionals, student organizations, faculty, staff and members of the university community. The individual in this position will be able to assist students in exploring and articulating their own beliefs and values help students develop an understanding and respect for the traditions of others, encourage students to identify their own spiritual needs and support students in making connections between faith, action and everyday life. This position will work with the RSL team in providing leadership for the religious and spiritual life on the campus. The department’s work includes, but is not limited to 1) overseeing student religious organizations, campus ministries and affiliated staff; 2) addressing matters of faith and spirituality through co-curricular programs, resources, presentations; 3) providing pastoral care, crisis response and worship to the campus as a whole.

 

 

In particular, this position is responsible for the support, development and administration of student religious organizations. This includes providing mentoring, leadership development, program assistance as well as advising the RSL Council of presidents, made up of representatives from over 23 organizations. In addition, this individual will oversee work with RSL programs including but not limited to faith-based social justice and service initiatives and coordinate university worship services on special occasions. This position also collaborates with divisional and university initiatives and the schedule will involve evening and weekend work in accordance with activities and programs of the University.

 

Qualifications: Two years experience with ministry in higher education or with young adults is required. Ideal candidates will have the ability to establish strong rapport with students of all faith perspectives and an ability to help others discern and articulate their beliefs and values. A successful candidate will also be able to help students engage in the spiritual and intellectual explorations of their own religious traditions as well as others and also have an appreciation for the connections between faith and social justice. Candidates should also understand the process of college student development with special attention to its moral and spiritual aspects and be able to provide pastoral care to a diverse population of students, faculty and staff. Very strong administrative, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are necessary as well as demonstrated programmatic experience. Candidates should be able to work self-directed with deadlines, but also as part of a team. Successful candidates will hold a Masters in Divinity from an accredited institution and ordination or licensure from a recognized denomination.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The qualified candidate will motivate and inspire people of all ages to engage in learning that will strengthen their personal relationship with Jesus Christ and deepen their knowledge of the Christian faith. Specifically, the Interim Director of Christian Education will work with the Christian Education Committee to maintain and continue the vision for Christian Education ministries serving First Presbyterian Church. This position is responsible to the Session and accountable to the Pastor and to the Christian Education Committee. The IDCE will coordinate with church staff and volunteers involved in Christian Education within the church.

 

The IDCE is a temporary position to lead the Christian Education ministries of the church as the committee engages in a permanent search.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Work with the Head Pastor and the Christian Education Committee to continue the Christian Education vision and related programs.

1. Maintain programs and activities using both dedicated CE resources, and collaborating with other church groups that have a CE component.

2. Provide leadership, supervision, and support to incumbents in CE related staff roles, including the Nursery Coordinator and Preschool Director, working to ensure effective collaboration and alignment of efforts in support of the church and CE vision.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

b. Recruit and work with volunteer teachers and the Youth Director to plan the program, oversee curriculum development, and ensure smooth and effective implementation.

            3. Coordinate and Oversee Vacation Bible School (“VBS”)

d. Evaluate VBS program; develop and suggest improvements for the following year.

            4. Mid-week church - The Bridge program

a. Work with The Bridge Steering Committee to develop and coordinate the Christian Education component(s) of The Bridge program.

b. Support weekly planning activities for The Bridge Kids program and recruit volunteers as needed.

            5. Adult Education

a. Assist coordination of Adult Education programs including The Bridge and Sunday mornings.

                        b. Provide adult education resources for men and women’s ministry groups.

            c. Lead adult studies as schedule permits.

 

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Attend weekly staff meeting.

2. Attend Christian Education Committee monthly meetings.

3. Maintain oversight of CE budget, ensuring appropriate use of resources and keeping CE Committee informed regarding anticipated significant deviations from budget.

4. Write, or engage writers, for Christian Education articles for monthly church newsletter.

5. Collaborate with Director of Marketing regarding CE content for church website.

6. Ensure timely ordering and dispersal of church school curriculum and supplies.

7. Develop and maintain attendance statistics to help with program evaluation and future planning processes.

8. Ensure coverage is provided in the CE Center Sundays from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be a person who loves God and God’s people.

2. Must be a person of strong faith and integrity.

3. Must possess proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

4. Master of Arts in Christian Education highly desired.

5. Master of Divinity desired.

6. Experience in leading a Christian Education program in a large church required.

Primary Purpose:
The Sponsorship Developer develops, coordinates, and maintains congregational
and community support for refugees, asylums, and entrants resettling through IRP/
Lancaster. This position seeks to establish a pool of co-sponsoring congregations and
volunteers interested in working with newly arriving refugees, asylums, and entrants.
The position also coordinates the Lancaster County Refugee Coalition.

Essential Duties:
♦ Establishes and maintains positive working relationships and partnerships with
local churches, other religious organizations, corporations, schools, colleges and
universities, and civic and service organizations to broaden the base of co-sponsor/
volunteer recruitment and heighten IRP/Lancaster’s visibility in the community.
♦ Works with denominations and local churches to encourage refugee co-sponsorship.
Provides educational materials and interpretative information that church leaders
in developing co-sponsorship programs and raising awareness about refugee
concerns.
♦ Develops and manages a program for co-sponsors and volunteers that incorporates
policies and procedures complying with organizational standards.
♦ Recruits and trains an appropriate and sufficient number of co-sponsors and
volunteers to assist in meeting the needs of newly arriving clients.
♦ Develops standardized management systems to assure the overall coordination
of the co-sponsorship and volunteer program. Develops and periodically updates
training manuals and provides relevant training materials to co-sponsors and
volunteers as needed relative to their assignments.
♦ Ensures that all co-sponsors and volunteers are oriented to the organization’s
mission, general policies, and procedures.
♦ Develops and maintains an information database to track co-sponsor and volunteer
contributions, including contact information, hours of service, cash and in-kind
donations, and other data as required.
♦ Assists co-sponsors and volunteers in their efforts to improve their ability to help
refugees and immigrants attain self-sufficiency. Assesses the ability of co-sponsors
and volunteers to assist in resettlement activities.
♦ Keeps informed about refugee and immigrant issues, using current information to
educate churches and the broader community about refugees and immigrants.

Sponsorship Developer

♦ Assesses anchor relatives’ ability to assist family members and determines need for
linkages with co-sponsors and/or volunteers to meet needs.
♦ Relates to national level representative of Church World Service denominations
to increase involvement of local churches and provide information on assistance
provided by local churches.
♦ Maintains records of all contacts and results of contacts in pre-arrival case notes,
files appropriate reports including the Quarterly Congregational Assistance Form,
and follows established office procedures for documenting services and protecting
confidential information.
♦ Participates in orientation for co-sponsors and newly arrived refugees. Meets with
co-sponsors and new arrivals as needed.
♦ Advocates on behalf of co-sponsors, refugees, and refugee-serving voluntary
agencies.
♦ Represents the program at meetings and speaking engagements relevant to the
responsibilities of the position.
♦ Undertakes other duties as assigned.
♦ Works varied hours, including night and weekend work (at least one Sunday each
month).

Qualifications:
Education: B.A. or 2 years experience in refugee resettlement or related field.

Experience: Previous work experience in a faith-based non-profit setting and
knowledge of immigration and refugee issues, Church World Service denominations,
and volunteer management practices is essential for this position. Demonstrated ability
to work independently with a high level of comfort and skill interacting with partner
organizations and coordinating people and resources. Ability to work in a multicultural
environment required.

Other Skills:
Superior public speaking skills and strength in written communication. The successful
candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel,
and Word) and internet applications required.

St. John's Episcopal Church (321 W. Programs Resource Coordinator

Job Description

Functions: Coordinate and direct the C.C.C. (Christian Community Club). Support the outreach
ministries of the pre-teens group P.E.P.P.E.R. (Preparing Everyone through Praise
and Prayer for Everlasting Rewards), the youth group S.A.L.T. (Saving All Lives
Together), collaborate with Kid’s Night (LUMINA) and any other special program
or ministry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Oversee the recruitment and coordination of volunteers for the outreach ministries listed
above in collaboration with the groups’ leaders.
2. Prepare a meal schedule for CCC, as well as the cooks.
3. Maintain attendance records for each program.
4. Purchase the supplies and the materials needed for those programs/ministries.
5. Assist in the review and evaluation of the curriculum for each program/ministry.
6. Assist with the coordination and plan of special events for each program/ministry.
7. Keep an up-to-date calendar of events, activities, and meetings.
8. Prepare Bible studies as needed and/or recruit volunteers for Bible studies.
9. Maintain positive relationships with the parents of the children and youth of our church,
church staff and volunteers, and community.
10. Maintain a collaborative relationship with the staff at Washington Elementary School.
11. Submit a written report on the status of the above ministries to the Administrative
Council on a monthly basis.
12. Search for grants to support the above ministries and write required reports.
13. Maintain the Senior Pastor informed on any changes or plans.
14. Complete other tasks as may be agreed upon with the Pastor and SPRC.

Requirements:

1. Excellent oral and written communication in English and preferably good oral
communication in Spanish
2. Excellent administrative and organizational skills.
3. Self-directed, self-motivated, self-starter
4. Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and will encourage the children and youth
to become followers of Jesus.
5. Knowledge of the Scriptures.
6. Knowledge about children and youth’s spiritual, social and emotional development.
7. Educational background or experience working with children and youth.
8. Show sensitivity to the emotional and spiritual needs of the youth and able to listen and
respond in a helpful manner.
9. Collaborative leadership style.
