Theologian, teacher, and spiritual director, Dr. David M. Mellott is committed to supporting and nurturing Christian communities which empower people to live more authentically as they seek to love God, neighbor, and self more deeply. Reimagining theological education and spiritual formation is the focus of his writing and research.

Dr. Mellott's doctoral work focused on the religious practices of the Penitentes in northern New Mexico as a way to explore the relationship between the spiritual practices of a community and the theology that emerges from that community. He also holds a Master of Arts in Religious Studies and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, and a B.A. in English Literature and Latin American Studies from The Pontifical College Josephinum. In addition, he has studied at Sorbonne University in Paris and the Goethe Institute in Munich.

Prior to his doctoral studies, Dr. Mellott was a residential faculty member, student advisor, and coordinator of worship at St. Mary's Seminary & University in Baltimore, MD from 1994-1997. He has planned and facilitated numerous worship services, retreats, and conferences for seminarians, clergy, lay people, and teenagers on topics of self-awareness, vocational discernment, and leadership development.

Dr. Mellott's hobbies include cooking, novel reading, wine-tasting, and traveling. His partner, Lance F. Mullins, is Manager of Cokesbury Bookstore at Lancaster Theological Seminary. They reside in Lancaster with their canine daughter, Sophie.
